With just days before the start of the 2015 legislative session, NYSUT has launched an ad campaign (PDF) calling on the governor and state lawmakers to pass a budget that fairly funds all school districts in New York. The ad appeared in the Jan. 4 issue of the Albany Times Union, and the Jan. 6 issues of City and State magazine and The Legislative Gazette, two publications targeted for elected officials. The 2015 legislative session begins today, Jan. 8.

The ad, created by NYSUT’s Communications Department, features a teacher in the back of a classroom calling on Gov. Cuomo and state legislators to “fully fund our public schools.”

The ad notes the state has a $5 billion dollar budget surplus, and urges lawmakers to use some of that to restore funding to public schools.

“We need a $2.2 billion increase over current funding – students cannot take any more classroom cuts,” the ad reads. “We’re counting on you to increase school funding for all school districts in this coming budget and give priority to needier districts.”

The PDF version is available to download and distribute.
