Documenting the pain

NYSUT has spent most of 2011 telling reporters, editors and just about anyone else who might affect public opinion that cuts to public education — including higher ed — would have a negative impact on communities across New York. Some got it right away; others ignored the obvious; and some are still living in a fog.

Well, some of the more responsible journalists and news outlets are now starting to report what NYSUT members have long known: Budget cuts mean fewer programs and services for students; larger classes; jobs losses; deserted school buildings; and an overall diminished quality of life in many communities.

Here’s one such report from the Gannett News Service.

We’re trying real hard not to say, “We told you so.”
