As Ellen Schuler Mauk’s delegate badge makes clear, these credentials can read like road maps of union activism. Her badge indicates her role as a NYSUT Board member as well as president of the Faculty Association of Suffolk Community College.
And because NYSUT’s VOTE-COPE committee made a strategic decision this year, the delegate badges are trimmed with a new flourish. Instead of awarding metal pins to those whose locals achieve extraordinary levels of VOTE-COPE contributions, delegates now sport ribbons recognizing the accomplishment instead. “The ribbons are more economical,” said Schuler Mauk.”And every little bit helps VOTE-COPE,” NYSUT’s political action fund.
Another sentiment of solidarity comes through loud and clear on a red button that proclaims: “We are ALL Wisconsin!”
