Books, shampoo and baskets

So far the SRP members have brought over 300 beautiful children’s book and,\ two HUGE tubs of toiletries. Also raffle tickets for NYSUT’s Disaster Relief Fund are selling as fast as people like Joanne Colombo of the Brewster TA, Mary Jo Roberge of the North Syracuse EA and Donna Signs of the Owego Apalachin EA can sell them.  That’s because the baskets are simply stunning this year. Locals put together baskets of items from their area, or around some theme. Those items are raffled off Saturday night. The books will go to Newburgh schools, the shampoos, lotions and whatnot will go to shelters and the money is distributed through the relief fund. A word about the relief fund. Since it’s through the union, NYSUT absorbs the administrative fees, and people know that whatever they donate, whether it’s $1, $10 or $100, it all ends up in the hands of someone who really needs it.
