Ever the unionist: Sheila Goldberg

Nothing, it seems, can stop Sheila Goldberg, president of Retiree Council 17. Her unwavering union spirit and eagerness to help is always at full steam, even from her hospital bed.

When Sheila let folks know about her upcoming surgery, she made it clear: No flowers or gifts, please. Donate to the NYSUT Disaster Relief Fund instead. (During a past hospital stay, her plea was for donations to VOTE-COPE, the union’s political action fund.)

On Wednesday, days after her surgery, Sheila’s doctor told her he was going to get her out of bed to walk a bit.

“She couldn’t see the value of walking back and forth if she didn’t have a picket sign,” wrote Ken Ulric, RC 17’s PAC coordinator, so I brought her a con con lawn sign which she displayed in bed and will carry around when she makes her rounds.”

He said Sheila continues to improve, her spirits are good “and her wit is as sharp as ever.”

So, on Nov. 7, make Sheila proud: Vote NO on Proposition 1 regarding a NYS constitutional convention.

Get well, soon, Sheila.
