NYSUT members can take part in a webinar on Wednesday offered by the National Education Association to learn more about the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Undocumented Students program. DACA was created by President Obama in 2012 to provide young people born abroad but raised here a way to stay in the US without fear of being deported.
The webinar, which starts at 8 p.m., is designed to inform union educators about ways they can help students and their families, should they be asked for help, and to provide other useful information.
According to the NEA — one of NYSUT’s national affiliates — more than half a million young people have taken advantage of DACA since its inception. Many more are eligible to apply but need help to complete the process, and often turn to their teachers for advice and assistance.
Interested participants can register for the webinar online.
