‘I want to learn instead of tests all the time’

As Albany musician Bryan Thomas belts out his take on Steve Earle’s “The Revolution Starts Now” from the stage at Empire State Plaza during the “One Voice United” rally, one 10th-grade teacher explains why his second-grade son told him he had to come today.

Mike Comet, vice president of the South Lewis Teachers Association, was featured in a recent issue of NYSUT United in a story about a recent “Tell it like it is” forum with NYSUT President Dick Iannuzzi and Vice President Maria Neira. His son, Noah, picked up the union newsmagazine and saw his father’s name.

“He said, ‘Dad, you’re in the paper. What’s it about?’ I told him we were having a rally and it was about teachers getting together to make sure that we can teach instead of test all the time. He said, ‘Dad, you’ve got to go and tell him I want to learn instead of take tests all the time.’”

Comet wants to make noise today to get positive change happening in the schools.
