Get on the rally bus: Freeport, Long Island (Updated with Sachem offer)

If you live on the southern side of Nassau County,  the president of the Freeport TA has an offer for you.

“Anybody who wants a ride to the June 8 rally in Albany can come,” said Stu Napear. “They reserve a seat with $10 and they will get that $10 back when they step on the bus.”  If you need more information, email to Act soon because it will be first-come, first-served.

So far,  the NYSUT locals joining the effort include Hempstead, West Hempstead, Baldwin, Rockville Centre, Lynbrook, Oceanside, Long Beach, Valley Stream, Lawrence and Freeport. Also planning on being part of the “One Voice United” rally are a number of parent-teacher groups, college student groups and community organizations from the area.

“You don’t even have to be a member of a group. Any individual or family that wants to come with us to Albany on Saturday, June 8, to fight for public schools is welcome to get on our bus,” Napear said. “It makes so much sense for us because we have at least a three-hour, one-way drive and it’s so much more comfortable.”

Better for the environment, too.

This is a great idea of pooling resources. Any other region have similar offers? Just let me know through or (800) 342-9810, ext. 6283, You can also comment below. Meanwhile, if you have any stories from the May 3, 2003 march, we’d love to share them.
