Michelle Doorey teaches English, creative writing and more at Ausable Valley High School. She is also the mother of a third-grader and a blogger, writing as “TeacherMomNY.”
Michelle joined NYSUT officers Dick Iannuzzi and Maria Neira several weeks ago for a “Tell It Like It Is” town hall meeting in Lake Placid, where several hundred North Country educators discussed — many with great passion — the state’s obsession with standardized testing and its effects on their students.
A member of the Ausable Valley TA, Michelle — who has already written several “Tell It” letters to the state education commissioner and Board of Regents — didn’t say much that night but had a lot to share when she got home and sat in front of her keyboard. She wrote as an educator and, even more, as a parent.
