Long Island Latino Teachers voice support for Court of Appeals nominee Jenny Rivera

The Long Island Latino Teachers Association recently voiced support for the nomination of Jenny Rivera for the New York State Court of Appeals. Rivera was recently nominated by Gov. Andrew Cuomo for a seat on the state’s highest court.

Att: Esteemed Senators and Senate Judiciary Members:

We write you with strong conviction and unwavering support for the nomination of Jenny Rivera for the New York State Court of Appeals. Ms. Rivera has proven to be a principled leader in upholding the spirit and letter of the law in her distinguished career. Her colleagues, peers and students laud her as a brilliant legal mind and public servant. Her work in different offices throughout her career and teachings on critical issues affecting New Yorkers are what most impress us on her candidacy. Jenny Rivera has worked in key issues that have impacted New York residents and will no doubt serve us well in the Court of Appeals. Her outstanding work on domestic violence issues and predatory lending in particular prove to be experience that will be of great value once confirmed. Moreover, her work in the Attorney General’s Office on a myriad of vital issues to protect the public interest denotes her commitment to public service and the integrity of the law.

We believe that Ms. Rivera has the temperament to serve the court with professionalism, fair balance and distinction. Ms. Rivera’s impressive preparation and education and outstanding career will serve the State of New York and continue our commitment to upholding justice and the integrity of legal principles and blind justice that have made us the $eat Empire State where people feel that justice is available to everyone. We urge you to vote to support and confirm Jenny Rivera to the NYS Court of Appeals. Jenny Rivera will be a great Judge of committed and capable service to help protect and represent the interests for residents of this great state. She was found “well qualified” in her screening process and her testimony was candid, thorough and forthcoming in addressing all questions posed.
