Taxing Tuesday

Tuesday is a busy day at the state Capitol. Members of the United Federation of Teachers — NYSUT’s largest local —  host a legislative reception starting at 8:30 a.m. Then lawmakers will start hearing testimony about the proposed budget at 10 a.m.
NYSUT’s testimony will be delivered by Executive Vice President Andy Pallotta and Director of Legislation Steve Allinger. UFT President Michael Mulgrew will also testify. We’ll update with links to that testimony after it’s presented, which should be shortly after noon.
You can help support those efforts. Go to NYSUT’s Member Action Center to send an electronic message. You can demand reform of the tax cap, support funding for teacher centers as well as for pre-k programs and special education services, and much more. Or call your state lawmakers and tell them how your district needs additional funding to provide the education our students deserve.
You can call (518) 455-4100 to reach the New York State Assembly,  (518) 455-2800 to reach the New York State Senate or (518) 474-8390 to reach Governor Cuomo.
