Tomorrow, the statewide AFL-CIO is sponsoring a call-in to Congress. Please call your representatives at 888-659-9401 to let them know that you support a fair approach to deficit reduction.
Tell your representative:
- Let the Bush tax cuts expire for those making more than $250,000;
- Ensure that Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid benefits are not cut and that the costs of these programs are not shifted to beneficiaries or to the states;
- Avert sequestration, which would result in devastating across-the-board cuts in state aid, education, health care funding and more; and
- Include components of President Obama’s American Jobs Act that support job creation, retention and infrastructure investments.
The potential $250 million cut in education funding for New York could mean a loss of more than 3,600 education jobs and affect an estimated 365,000 students. Congress must act now to ensure that these cuts do not occur. We can no longer afford to have millionaires and corporations continue to benefit while Congress balances the budget on the backs of children. Please join the national call-in at 888-659-9401.
