It’s Fair time!

You see a lot of things at the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse: cotton candy, butter sculptures, kids holding desperately onto the last days of summer and, of course, NYSUT Secretary-Treasurer Lee Cutler greeting New Yorkers at the union’s booth.

The fair kicks off tomorrow — Thursday — and continues through Labor Day. As it has in recent years, the NYSUT booth is located in the Center of Progress Building, across from the always-popular giant sand sculpture. As he has been just about every year, Cutler will be on hand for opening day, welcoming fair-goers and talking to the hundreds of NYSUT members who stop by.

The NYSUT booth is always stocked with education materials and back-to-school giveaways. But this year, to mark the implementation of the state’s Dignity for All Students Act, the booth will include anti-bullying information for teachers, students and their parents. It’s an issue important to NYSUT and one championed by Cutler, who heads up the union’s social justice initiatives.

Members stopping by the booth should sign in and pick up some materials made available especially for them. Also, say hello to your sisters and brothers from Syracuse-area locals who are staffing the booth, day and night. We couldn’t do it without them.
