Support Con Ed workers

An astute NYSUT member sent us an email last night reminding us that it’s important for all unionists to care about what’s happening in New York City, where about 8,500 Consolidated Edison workers have been locked out of their jobs since the contract with the utility company expired on June 30.

We are all brothers and sisters and need to show support for
all our unions.  If something happens with Utility Workers Union of America, Local 1-2 (Con Edison’s union), it could possibly affect all of us in the future.

Con Ed management must have felt the heat over the weekend — literally and figuratively — when it seemingly acquiesced to public opinion and restored workers’ health benefits. Here’s hoping that is a positive sign and that further labor strife will be averted.

Meanwhile, NYSUT members are well aware that, in the world of organized labor, an injury to one is an injury to all and stand in solidarity with Local 1-2.
