Lawmakers have just under three weeks to protect teacher and student privacy. That’s because the legislative session ends June 21.
Here’s a link where you can send a fax to the governor or your lawmaker seeking legislation to protect the privacy of personnel records. But how does that apply to students’ privacy? Because in the large number of districts that have single sections of grades, revealing a teacher’s grade based on student test scores essentially means letting the community know how students score.
Talking about grades, hope none of my journalism professors get ahold of that long last sentence!
Oh, Betsy, I’ve already sent my email to the governor and state senator on this, but did your journalism professor ever tell you that “ahold” isn’t really a word?
Further, the REAL problem with the entire privacy issue is that NYSUT agreed to use test scores to evaluate teachers!!! When NYSUT agreed to this new APPR, they sold teachers right down the river and into a whole new world of hurt!
Wait till the masses have to deal with the insanity of SLOs next year! Then I want to hear Dick Iannuzzi and his officers do some REALLY fast talking to explain how this is good for education.
Oh, I know these comments are monitored and this will never see the light of day, but I feel good speaking the unvarnished truth to NYSUT power!
Thanks for your comments and your correction Kathy.
NYSUT has taken a strong stance against problems with the testing system.
