Not sure how the weather has been where you are, but this will be the first rain-free weekend in the Capital District since Sept. 17-18.
Better yet, a whole cadre of NYSUT locals are doing good this weekend. We’ve got unions from all over. Here’s a list so far: Not sure whether to list alphabetically or geographically. Let’s go alpha:
Amsterdam, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake,Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Chappaqua, Cobleskill-Richmondville, Duanesburg, Galway, Gilboa-Conesville, Gloversville, Johnstown, Katonah-Lewisboro, Mahopac, Middleburgh, Saratoga, South Glens Falls, Schenectady, Schoharie, Troy, Sharon Springs, Jefferson, UUP chapter from SUNY Cobleskill and Yorktown.
We’ve got other unions coming too. We’ve got CSEA, CWA, (a special nod to CWA staffers at NYSUT) PEF, PSA (representing professional staff at NYSUT) and tradespeople from the Schenectady Central Labor Council and the Capital District Area Labor Federation.
So many are doing so much. In addition to having a team of 15 volunteers, the Mahopac TA also offered to pay for lodging for any ED 15-16 members who volunteered. “Cold nights and mornings are coming, these folks need our help,” Mahopac TA President Michael Hunt told me when I asked why his local was doing this.
Tomorrow we’ll be joined by the UFT. Almost 50 members are getting on a bus at 6:30 a.m. to come up for the day. Michael Mulgrew is a former carpenter and word has it he might be doing more than just insulation.
I’ll be tweeting info and pics using #NYSUTproud.
