President Obama to propose “millionaire’s tax”

Happy Monday!

Last night I caught a bit of national news that was verified this morning. Here’s a link to the New York Times piece spelling out that President Obama will call for a new minimum tax rate for individuals making more than $1 million a year to ensure that they pay at least the same percentage of their earnings as middle-income taxpayers. Here’s an ABC News blog post about it.

Yippee! After 11 months of pointing up the growing income gap in our nation, it appears someone is listening. Now if we could get the same kind of proposal moving here in New York state, we would not be facing closed state parks, schools, health clinics and more.

It’s a busy week. Middleburgh school students and staff finally start school today. (Another Yippee!) The Alliance For Quality Education kicks off a week of events, and there’s still a national push for Congress to approve the Jobs Act. Here’s the link to how you can help.
