Vets stand up for Social Security

Though Memorial Day weekend 2011 is over, we should continue to reflect on its true meaning and on those it honors. One way to do that is to support the work of the AFL-CIO Unions Veterans Council. The Council has joined several members of Congress and eight other veterans’ organizations to promote the Strengthen Social Security campaign.

The campaign recently released a report, “Social Security: Serving Those Who Serve Our Nation,” that shows the negative impact that Social Security cuts would have on veterans and military families. The report highlights the personal stories of how Social Security has helped veterans in their day-to-day lives.

The AFL-CIO reminds us that military men and women contribute to Social Security like all working Americans, from their first paycheck while in basic training until their last check when discharged.
