Asking for all those brand new twits out there. What’s a hashtag?

The “hashtag” is just a keyword. It lets many users follow or contribute to a Twitter discussion. The pound sign in front of the keyword makes it a live link to a listing of the latest tweets using the tag.

A good example: the #wiunion hashtag that people include in tweets about recent struggles for workers’ rights in Wisconsin. Follow the link and Twitter shows you the latest #wiunion tweets.

You can learn more about hashtags at techforluddites.com. And please understand that I am not calling you a luddite, that’s just the name of the site.
