Gear up for week of solidarity with this video

Nearly 1,000 solidarity events are scheduled this week. Here’s a list of some events but also check with your NYSUT regional office for the latest. They all lead up to the big rally at noon Times Square, New York City April 9.

This rally coincides with NYSUT’s 39th annual convention, so we’re expecting delegates to attend en masse.

Let’s get as many there as possible. So far we’ve got details to help get you there from the Syracuse and the mid-Hudson area. Call NYSUT’s Syracuse Regional Office at (315) 431-4040 for details and reservations about a bus leaving from central New York in the morning. E-mail with the names, district affiliations and cell phone numbers of each person who can get on a bus from the Ulster area. Let Richard DeRuvo know if you will be at the NYSUT’s Kingston office or want to be picked up from the New Paltz exit.

We’re awaiting confirmation about a special train to help Long Islanders get to the rally on a Solidarity Express!

Wherever you are coming from, only reserve seats for those who are definitely coming.

If the attacks on workers isn’t enough to get you to a rally, consider watching this speech by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

If video is not your thing, here’s a report about his speech that decries why major cuts are being proposed to Head Start, “let’s go after little kids,” he says, and Social Security and the environment while some of the most profitable corporations pay little to nothing in federal income taxes. (In some cases they get rebates!)
