This is the last weekend for 2010 Making Strides. Yes, our most northern areas of the state are the last to stride. Perhaps some year they will be skiing instead of walking? (That’s June and Ron Smith on their cross-country skis in the Adirondacks near Lake Placid. June is retired from Smithtown Teachers and Ron from the Sayville TA. They live on Long Island. Isn’t it funny I would have a picture of them cross-country skiing?)
Andrew Watson will bring a camera to Saturday’s event at Queensbury High School. Members will also be walking in Watertown, starting at the Thompson Park Pavilion. North Country folks, send me your photos especially if there’s snow!
Besides putting feet on the street to raise funds and awareness to fight cancer, NYSUT activists will also be out walking to get out the vote for the Nov. 2 election. There’s folks walking in so many areas across the state. June and Ron have been walking most weekends with the Long Island Federation. If you’re interested contact your area labor federation. Here’s a handy-dandy link
with phone numbers and addresses.
It’s also a busy BOCES weekend. More than 100 BOCES members of NYSUT will be in Albany for their statewide leadership conference. Bernie Mulligan will be there reporting and we’ll have Katherine Van Acker freelancing for the photos. Look for those to go up early next week.
Whatever you do, have a great weekend!
